Nick's Story

Nick was referred to Landau, an organisation which provides supported work placements for people with learning disabilities 16+, by Jobcentre Plus.

Nick was unemployed at the time and had been out of work for about 6 months. During the interview with his Adviser, Nick said that he would like to work again but felt that he would need some additional support. He agreed to attend an 8 week course delivered by Landau which covered all aspects of the world of work.

Nick thoroughly enjoyed the ‘World of Work’ course; not only did it refresh his knowledge of the working world, but it also enabled him to make some great friends. Once the course had finished, Nick started a placement at an elderly person’s home and made plans to enrol at Newcastle College in September to do the ‘Introduction into Care’ course. He now works voluntarily at the home, and when he has finished his training he is hoping to get some part-time paid work.
